Out of Hours

What to do when the Surgery is Closed

If medical advice is required when the Surgery is closed, please telephone 111 to contact the Out of Hours service provider. You will be asked to provide limited information in the first instance to enable your call to be prioritised. This will be followed as soon as possible by a Clinician calling you back who will give appropriate advice based on the information that you have given.

If you are calling on behalf of someone else please have relevant information available, such as:

  • Address
  • Date of birth
  • Current medication
  • Name of their GP

If considered necessary you will be referred to a duty Doctor or Nurse Practitioner who will contact you and, either give further telephone advice, or ask you to attend a local centre or in appropriate circumstances visit you at home.

NHS 111

People who call NHS 111 with an urgent health issue that is not an emergency, are prioritised and routed to the most appropriate care, based upon the symptoms they report. The call-handler steers patients towards a range of care options from self-care through to Nurse Clinicians, GPs, Urgent Care Centres and Accident and Emergency Departments, whilst also having the capability to pass calls directly to the Ambulance service in the event of an emergency.

NHS 111 is a free-to-use number which operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. 111 is an alternative to 999 which should be used for non-emergency health problems.

Emergencies

During Surgery hours an emergency is a medical problem that needs attention within 30 minutes. After hours it is a medical problem that cannot wait until the surgery opens.

Accessibility

The practice has same level disabled parking with slope access to the main building with dual handrails and automatic entrance doors (inner doorway width 78cm). For further details on accessibility provision click the ‘Accessibility Needs’ above.

Telephone Advice

If you wish to speak to a Doctor or Nurse Practitioner on the telephone, ask the Receptionist who will take the relevant details and arrange a telephone appointment. If it is not urgent the appointment may not be for the same day.

Hospital Referrals

You will be offered a choice of hospitals that specialise in the area of medicine required. You will be given the opportunity to choose where you wish to be seen and to make an appointment at a convenient time.

Language

Please contact the surgery if you believe yourself or a family member may need the assistance of an interpreter at a consultation. The Practice will endeavour to obtain an interpreter if one is not already available.
