Data Protection Act 1998
The Practice fully complies with the Data Protection Act 1998. Under the Act patients have a right to be informed whether personal data about them is being processed and have the right of access to the data. Patients can review the data processed and formal applications for access should be made in writing to the Practice Manager. A fee may be charged for this.
Practice Staff are bound by the same confidentiality rules as Doctors. We comply fully with the Data Protection Act 1998 and Freedom of Information Act 2000.
The Surgery has a copy of Patients’ Rights and Responsibilities for you to access.
We respect your right to privacy and keep all your health information confidential and secure. It is important that the NHS keeps accurate and up-to-date records about your health and treatment so that those treating you can provide the best possible care. We have a fully computerised medical record system which means information about your healthcare is held on a secure server.
You have the right to know what information we hold about you. Please ask the receptionist if you wish to see or obtain a copy of your record. If you are referred to a hospital specialist you are also welcome to request a copy of the referral letter, there may be a charge for this.
NHS Connecting for Health has developed the National Care Records Service, which will create a Summary Care Record (SCR) for each individual patient, to be held centrally. Eventually the aim is to enable healthcare staff jointly involved in your care, such as your GP and your hospital consultant, to easily access and share information through this national record. You have the right to withdraw your consent to information being shared.
Data Protection Act 2018
The Data Protection Act 2018 is the UK’s implementation of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Everyone responsible for using personal data has to follow strict rules called ‘data protection principles’. They must make sure the information is:
- used fairly, lawfully and transparently
- used for specified, explicit purposes
- used in a way that is adequate, relevant and limited to only what is necessary
- accurate and, where necessary, kept up to date
- kept for no longer than is necessary
- handled in a way that ensures appropriate security, including protection against unlawful or unauthorised processing, access, loss, destruction or damage
Zero Tolerance
This practice supports the Government’s NHS ZERO TOLERANCE ZONE campaign. GPs and their staff have the right to care for others without fear of being attacked or abused. We ask that you treat your GP and practice staff with courtesy and consideration.
GP Net Earnings
All GP practices are required to declare the mean earnings (e.g. average pay) for GPs working to deliver NHS services to patients at each practice.
The average pay for GPs working in Hartington Surgery in the last financial year was £111,321 before tax and national insurance. This is for 1 full time GP and 0 part time GPs and 1 locum who worked in the practice for more than six months.
